What can you learn from Susan Boyle?

There’s a reason that this story has garnered so much attention — it’s a feel-good about someone who is chasing their dreams despite the odds.

  • Talent comes in unexpected packages. This is for the recruiters: maybe that candidate doesn’t have just the experience and background that you specify in the job posting.  Maybe they come from the wrong school or the wrong industry.  But just maybe they have something remarkable to offer you.
  • Following your dreams?  Risk comes with the territory. Here’s a woman who was willing to put herself into a packed auditorium and have her performance broadcast on television (bet she didn’t imagine the millions of views on YouTube worldwide).  Why?  For a chance at the one thing she wanted most.  And sometimes, it’s just that kind of personal risk that’s required to get where you want to go.
  • It’s never too late. Susan is 47.  She started singing at 12.  That’s 35 years of waiting and hoping until an opportunity came along that could help her get started.  You can change your life.  It can be remarkable.  And you don’t have to be 25.

What can you do today to get you on the path to your dreams?
