Short and sweet today, folks. You must add a photo to your LinkedIn profile.
And it must meet the following guidelines:
- You must be dressed professionally. Not a suit, per se, but at minimum business casual.
- You must be the only person in the photo.
- It must be cropped so that we can actually see you, and lighted sufficiently to tell who you are.
That’s pretty much it. It’s easy to add a photo. I’ve blatantly stolen LinkedIn’s own instructions on how to do so:
- Click on the ‘Account & Settings’ link at the top of the home page.
- Click on ‘My Profile Photo‘ in the ‘Profile Settings’ section.
- Click on ‘Browse’ to find the photo you wish to publish.
- Click ‘Upload Photo‘.
- Select ‘Who you want the photo visible to…’.
- Click on ‘Save Settings’.
For your security, you can restrict photo access to only your connections or your network.
Power Tip: Use the same photo across all social media if possible. Your photo is part of your brand. Use it as such.
