What do you do when your online presence, design portfolio, multimedia content and general personality can’t be captured with text? You create a VisualCV.
An alternative to, or extension of, your LinkedIn profile, VisualCV marries a professional, high-impact interface with the best in Web 2.0 technology to provide a unique opportunity to showcase your personal brand.
I’ve only just begun playing with its capabilities, but let’s look at a few of them.
- Like LinkedIn, you can have your own unique URL, so you can insert your VisualCV link into your email and social media presences.
- Include video. Are you a public speaker? Do you have a video podcast? Here’s a great place to show off your work.
- Embed documents such as presentations, charts and other work product to show off what you can do.
- Multimedia portfolio capabilities allowing you to present audio and images.

Potential downsides? The customization is somewhat limited — a few choices for color, some choice on layout. Also, what it does not do is create connections with others. VisualCV is a great tool for creating a more comprehensive view of you, but “social networking” it is not.
In the upcoming weeks, we’ll walk through how to create a VisualCV that will create an impact on potential employers and/or clients.
Have you used VisualCV? What’s been your experience?
