Your resume summary statement: Get attention fast

by Kristi on June 24

StopwatchYesterday, I attended the Social Media/Online Marketing Masters Summit from Windy City Social.  (For my Twitter followers that got deluged with #wcsocial chatter yesterday, I promise to return to my normal, low-volume/high-focus self today.)

During a presentation on email marketing, Reagan Taylor of NCR urged us to create email campaigns with impact, because the average person scans email for 3-5 seconds before moving on.

The statistic may not be directly transferable to resume reviews, but I’m guessing it’s not far off.

So, how do you get an employer’s attention in 3-5 seconds?

Answer:  Your resume summary statement must make an immediate impact. If it does not deliver your value proposition in that short of a time, it is not doing its job.

How can you rewrite your resume summary statement to put your value proposition up front?
