Incremental choice and your priorities: Get what you want faster

by Kristi on June 29, 2009

And....They're offIf you’d like to catch up, so far we’ve talked about the power of incremental choice and how it applies to job search and relationship building.

My to-do list is unwieldy at best.  It includes big picture items (“develop training,” “evaluate landscaping”) and day-to-day grind (“buy bread,” “call Mom”).  And as much as I work to keep it organized, it’s much harder to keep it prioritized.

Somewhere, I know what my priorities are.  The problem is that each item on my to-do list somehow reflects one or more of my priorities.  Fact is, if it wasn’t somehow important, it wouldn’t be on the list.

So, here’s where the idea of incremental choice comes in.  As we go through our days, moment to moment, we make choices that bring us either closer to or farther from our goals.  But, which goals?

With multiple goals competing for your time, each time you make a decision on what to pursue you’re advancing some goals at the expense of others.

Remember: those goals that you routinely support with your choices are the goals that you’ll achieve.  The more often you support your goals through your decisions, the faster you get there.

How do you balance competing priorities?
