This is part 3 in a series on how to use VisualCV to represent your personal brand. To catch up, check out Visual CV Part 1 and Visual CV Part 2.
One great feature of VisualCV is the ability to add multimedia. in a world where we are deluged with text, multimedia content can really add a fresh feel to your page, as well as appealing to those who are more auditory or visual learners.
What sorts of multimedia can you include to enhance your professional brand?
- Recordings (video or audio) of presentations, conference calls, or anything else where you’re speaking on professional topics.
- Music or other performance of your own work.
- A personal greeting to visitors to your VisualCV.
- Testimonials from others who are willing to talk about your work on tape.
Multimedia not only offers a richer experience for the visitor, it instills trust as they have a chance to experience your tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and other factors that affect how you are perceived.
To add multimedia to VisualCV:
- Add a portfolio item while you edit your VisualCV.
- Upload your file from your computer, or use the wizards provided to include Yahoo! video, YouTube, or SlideShare content by pasting in the URL.
- Drape a photo over the file. You’ll see on the left below, the “Listen Now” graphic that I chose to use to represent the audio file. On the right is the graphic that shows it’s being linked to the audio clip that I already uploaded. To edit either the graphic (left) or file (right) simply click on the appropriate box and then select the file from the portfolio that you want to appear there.

- Add to Section/Save. It should now appear on your VisualCV.
By offering a multimedia experience on your VisualCV, you build interest and trust, both of which are great in supporting your career goals.
How are you using multimedia for your personal brand?

Hadn’t thought about using Visual CV to get “testimonials” / recommendations — what a great idea!
Heather: Let me know if you use it! I’d love to see examples in action.
