Need to catch up? Here’s the first tip for finding a hiring manager, and the second.
Your third tip for finding the hiring manager is this:
Use LinkedIn to find a hiring manager
Hopefully, by now you’re using LinkedIn effectively. But did you know that LinkedIn can help you find a pathway into the organization you’re applying to?
Using Advanced Search
One of the most powerful features of LinkedIn is the ability to see how your connections can get you into a given organization. One place to start is the Advanced Search option. (find it near the top right corner of the page by clicking “Advanced” directly to the right of the blue “Search” button.) Once you open the advanced search page, you can search by company and limit your results to the geographic location you’re targeting. People within your network will appear at the top of your search results, so you can easily see how you can best access staff within the company.
Using LinkedIn JobsInsider
JobsInsider automates your search so that you can always see how your network can support your job search efforts. By downloading a plugin for your web browser, you can get an instant view of pertinent connections as you browse job boards. JobsInsider recognizes when you visit one of the major job boards, and as you view job opportunities, searches your network and shows you how you can network into the organization that posted the opportunity. To learn more about JobsInsider, click “Browser Toolbar” all the way at the bottom of any LinkedIn page in the footer line labeled “Tools.”
