Clearing the decks

DSC00133.croppedToday is the Great Office Purge of 2009.  I’ve got a list and will hit the store this morning looking for organizational items and to restock my supplies — things like baskets, new inboxes, mailing supplies, binders and the like.  Then, I’ll spend the rest of today clearing out the items that are cluttering my space and putting the necessities in some kind of order.

Why is this so important today?  Because for the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed the way that the state of the physical space has impacted my productivity.  Papers get shuffled and reshuffled.  Things seem to accumulate where they shouldn’t.  And the idea of actually working in my workspace seems more and more unlikely.

Whether your clutter is physical, like my office, or mental, sometimes clearing the decks can make all the difference in your mindset and ablity to meet your goals.  Take a moment to notice what is getting in your way, and how you can move past it.

What clutter is keeping you from moving forward?
