Facebook’s new privacy settings make managing your personal brand easier

by Kristi on December 10

Today, I followed the simple 3-step process and updated my Facebook privacy settings.

Facebook has been due for a privacy makeover for a while. For a platform so often recognized for helping people get fired, break up, and lose their disability benefits, their privacy settings were often very difficult to find, understand and use.

So while the ease of the transition may make the privacy update seem simple, the benefits are really powerful.

First, every time you post something, you can control who can see it.

The default in this case is Everyone, but you can change your own default on the Privacy Settings page.

The Privacy Settings page allows you to control visibility of your profile on a granular level.

And when you’re done, you can preview what your profile looks like to various individuals on your friends list.

If you haven’t yet put controls on what is publicly visible on Facebook, this is a great time to do it. Look through the options, make some decisions, and rest easier knowing your Facebook account won’t get in your professional way.
